Just in case you were wondering... HERE IS INK!

Yes, Rogue fever is starting to grip the town! Last night Kien Lim and Vince Thomas were featured live on KFSR (that is incidentally webcast as well).

Today's Fresno Bee featured two articles. ONE on Kien (gee, he's getting a lot of press) and the other on the FESTIVAL ITSELF! The one on the fest (the printed version) featured pictures for the shows Rap Canterbury Tales, Chart Toppers Of 1349 and This Lily Was (Fontana).

Plus there have aso been a few more write-ups HERE & HERE! And yes all of these will be featured on our Media Page soon!

It's great to see that a lot of you are turning up the heat in the cyber world through places like MySpace and your own sites on getting your show and word of the festival out!

BTW... Fresno Famous has a great calendar section... if you haven't already... you should list your show there too!

Cheers!

We open in less than a week!

A final push... a hard one to get folks to your show... at least web-wise. After that it is all about "pressing the flesh".

What you can do Online:
  1. Send out show details via your email list.
  2. Don't forget to also highlight your Rogue Buddies... co-promotion works!
  3. Get crazy if you have a MySpace. Bulletins, blog, etc... when they're sick of it.... then you've done enough.
  4. Promotional Videos & Slideshows... we will take them to be featured on the Rogue site up till Feb. 28th.
  5. Get your show on EVERY Local webcalendar as possible! (Like the one on Fresno Famous.)
  6. Spread the GOSPEL OF THE ROGUE... in everything you send out! The more people turn up at the fest... the better your audience potential will be.
  7. Make sure everyone knows about the ArtHop samplers! (lists of venues will be posted soon!)
Cheers!

March 1 ArtHop

Hello Rogue Performers,

Here's ANOTHER chance to play at ArtHop (Thursday, March 1st) to promote your show.

Would you like to play a short (approx.10 minute)teaser of your show at
Java Wava
Salon 637 or
Ashtree Studios?

Arthop night brings a lot of foot traffic to these areas and these places have
graciously opened their doors for this crazy Rogue take-over of the
world. The slots run from 5:30pm-8:00pm[after which we all meet for the big Rogue Opening Party overat Full Circle Brewery for which I previously emailed you and which has been booked full already (list below)--that party runs from7:15-10:15pm

If you wish to play Java Wava, Salon 637 or Ashtree studios, contact the
individual hosts below. They are scheduling their venues independently without consulting
one another.

Who're the host/contact persons?
for Java Wava, it's Renee email her at: renee@roguefestival.com
for Salon 637 it's Jag email him at: jaguarbennett@gmail.com
for Ashtree Studios it's Tony email him at: aimper1@aol.com

Please contact them individually and please do not email the bunch ofthem in one
email and say"sign me up wherever I fit" or something. Pick a place and
sign up.If you have questions aboutthe venues, you are free to ask me or them. Info/directions to these venues can actuallybe found at roguefestival.com

Bring flyers! Meet fellow Rogue-ers. This is a great way to try and whip-up enthusiasm
for your show amongst folks that, proven by the fact that they are OUT, are people that DO go out and see stuff.

*******What are the rules?**********

Make yourself very 'plug in and play' ...some of the venues are running performers on tight every-15-minute schedules, and time adjusting your laser light show will only take away from your performance time. This evening...we're all going very....how do you say? "Commando".....very very simple P.A. andmaximum two mics----if you are a dance troupe, bring a boombox...this will be very low tech, but HECKA-fun!

******Can I play more than one spot?*******

It's tricky, but can be done. My suggestion? When you contact venue #1put 'please put me on early, I'm playing somewhere else later' and theother place....visa versa. OK, I'm stepping out of the loop on this one gang, my sphere ofresponsibility for this night will beat Full Circle for the Rogue Kick-Off Party (from 7:15-10:15pm) andwho's signed up to play at this one?

Take special note of your spot on the list if you're on the following list and trying to squeeze in another spot at the venues mentioned above.
Jose Ibarra is first at 7:15.
Jose Ibarra
Leisl Gardner
Cosmic Hayride
Luke Besmer
Terrance V. Mc Arthur
Julia Dawn
Suicide Lounge
Blake Jones (for the Trike Shop)
Tale's End & Mia Paschal
Tanjora Dance
Kien Lim
Babba (Rap Canterbury Tales)
Theatre Ventoux & Barry Smith

It's gonna be great!

Yesirreeee!
Your chance to do a mini-performance...a teaser...to get folks worked up to see your show!I'm hosting the party over at Full Circle Brewery--the place that the party will end up
and grow to full fruition. Other venues are hosting bits earlier in the Art Hop Evening.

What I need from YOU folks is a "Yes, I wanna perform that evening at Full Circle Brewery
for about 8-12 minutes between 7-9pm"

Yes, if you are a musician, come and do a song; if you are a dancer come and do a dance; if you----well, you get the picture.
Write back quick!!

Also, head on over to the Rogue website, www.roguefestival.com and see what M has been doing. He's been google-eyed for the last few weeks, but you as a performer have your own link on the Rogue website. Check out the updates page and see what's going on and all th info you'll need. We are trying to make everything as easy as possible, so please let me know if I can help you out in any way.

Housing: If you have not yet arranged housing and have something set, please let me know ASAP and I'll talk with Sarah about it.

I'll be getting a Tech Schedule out to everyone letting you know specific times, if you have not set something specific with me already, please let me know when we can tech and I'll make sure that happens! :-)

Rogue shirts are out and about and performers get them for $10! :-) johnjordan@roguefestival.com has more information so get your order in soon to have the shirts available upon arrival! :-)

I thin kthat's it. I'm working on getting the pictures taken care of, we have a meeting change and I haven't had a chance to get them... but I will... I am now determined and I'll raise hell for what I want! ;-) TeeHeeHee

Ciao!

Using the Web for Arts Marketing - part deux

The Impact Of Visuals!
The visual element is an important factor in attracting the potential audience member.

Web Design
This extends to the "look" of your site or blog. I have seen many an arts website that just comes of as "corporate". Is this the image you really want to project about what you do? I, myself prefer sites that are visually interesting and if nothing else... fun. Afterall, we are in the business of entertainment.

Here are a few examples that I think are effective (and these are Rogue 2007 participants):
Poster Design
A good poster design can do wonders... and should be included on your site. This is part of "branding" your show... providing a visual link and hopefully interest. A few have been posted on this post. By The Way... if you click on them... it will take you to their sites!

TIP: Resolution
For Printed Media (posters, flyers, etc) at least 300 DPI
For Web Visuals (website, blog) about 72 DPI is good for quick loading in any browser.

Slide Shows
OK, not many people are going to do promotional videos for their shows. (Though, with a little effort... it's really an affordable to do these days... more on that later.)

But a slide show is easier to handle. There are several sites that allow you to upload pictures and create one. Once you do... just copy the code and paste it onto your website or blog. Reading about what you do is great and all... but remember... it's the visuals that grab your audience.

Below is a list of slideshow sites that you may consider using.
http://www.picturetrail.com
http://www.flickr.com
http://www.bubbleshare.com
http://www.slide.com
http://photobucket.com

Here are a few examples from Rogue 2007 participants:
Then There Is Video
Sure, it takes a little time. And yes, editing can be a bitch. But it has become very affordable! Really, a camcorder and a basic editing program (that now comes standard with most operating systems these days) will provide you with the in-home possibilities to create an exciting visual

There is no medium that is more stunning than video. Once again, there are sites out there that will host your video... and once uploaded... just embed the code onto your site or blog. Presto! You now have a cool and interesting visual to sell your show to the world!

Below is a list of video hosting sites that you may consider using.
http://youtube.com
http://www.dailymotion.com
http://www.streamload.com
http://www.vimeo.com
http://www.zippyvideos.com
http://video.google.com

Here are some examples (once again from Rogue 2007 participants)

Example 1
Example 2

In fact, if you create a slideshow or a video for your Rogue Show... email the embedded code to graphics@roguefestival.com and will will feature it on a posting here on the updates page along with a link to it on your profile when the full 2007 Festival site is up. First come first serve.
Please include in your email:
1. Company:
2. Show Title:
3. Showtimes, Dates & Location

Using the Web for Arts Marketing - part one

If you are in the Arts you really need to quit your fear of using the Internet. For the first time in history there is a medium that puts everyone on a level playing field. (Really, for centuries people in the Arts were on the cutting edge of the new... except over the last 20 years.) Begin with your participation in the Rogue and start building an audience for now and for the future.
On a budget but wanting to have a web presence anyway?
Get a BLOG! They are easy to use... and best of all... they are FREE! Here are some of the better blog services out there. You can post articles, pictures and even videos.

Why A Blog And How Can I Use It?
Let's tackle the first question. Because it is easy to use! It also makes your presence interactive as it allows visitors (and potential audience members) to comment. Regular folk like to feel special... and interaction provides that.

Here are a few Arts based blogs and how they are used (incidentally, these are current Rogue participants):

Provide A Sample Of Your Work!
This provides intrigue to your upcoming show. Musicians especially can use this to great effect. Many have MySpace pages. You can easily give your potential audience a taste of your stuff. (BTW... every performer should have a MySpace Page... it's a wonderful tool for networking through their "friend" function.)

Here are some examples (and once again they are all current Rogue participants):
But it's not limited to Musicians. Here are some other Rogue participants with MySpace pages.
Next Topic... Visuals! Coming soon!
