A pleading memory from a former guerrilla. An illegal lesbian flirtation. The culture shock of a two-family childhood. And other stories of the foreign and the familiar, here and abroad. After using “home” to describe, at one time or another, three continents and four U.S. states, Twin Cities writer and journalist Katherine Glover brings together a mishmash of tales in this dynamic and funny one-woman show.

“History lessons blended with cultural insight… An energetic performance that brought out Glover’s sarcasm, wit and knack for storytelling.” -St. Paul Pioneer Press

I saw Katherine’s show at the San Francisco Fringe Festival, and loved it. Six months later, the show still resonates with me, and I wish I could see it again.

I loved her calm, intelligent stage presence, the unique, sharp insights on her travels (abroad and at home) and the meaning of home and “mi gente”. This is a show that really sneaks up on you, which I liked (no histrionics, just very tight writing and humor that trusts that this is enough). As an American who just blundered her way through Europe for 12 years, it was eye-opening, to say the least, and made me rethink how I lived that time. But I believe that it will resonate with anyone who has ever traveled in the figurative sense as well - and we all have (as you’ll see after you see her show!).

An important show, a different, true perspective, and one that allows us to think and form our own. I hope you’ll see it. (In fact, I raved about the Rogue to Katherine, and now she’s here, so please do see it!)

Quite a lot of good one woman shows this year. Although not the best of the lot, it was entertaining enough.
    P. S. I was never a fan of flip charts.

Quietly and powerfully presented, this mixture of tales is moving and amusing. A very personal story which resonates with others.

  4. Three Rogue Festival reviews at Vida en el Valle Blogs Says:

[...] - ‘No Stranger Than Home’ – I thought this one-woman show was great. Through her performance, Twin Cities writer and journalist Katherine Glover discusses what she’s learned about herself and her home by spending time abroad. Anybody who’s experienced culture shock in a foreign country, or even here in the U.S., would relate to her experiences. [...]

“No Stranger Than Home” is one of my favorites in this year’s Rogue, because it is so well written. Glover uses language as ordinary and purposeful as a windowpane, and she reveals her story and her emotions without any unnecessary “theatrical” tricks. She develops her theme without beating you over the head with it. Glover’s straightforward and subtle performance is the perfect complement to her writing. She connects with the audience so well, you feel like you’re having a conversation more than passively watching a show. Highly recommended.
