This one hour solo show takes the audience on a journey through Kurt’s adventures through speech therapy, from various breathing techniques to talking to dogs to therapists with out-of-control egos. Ultimately Kurt becomes an actor and enrolls in a threeweek

intensive speech therapy boot camp in Roanoke, Virginia, where he encounters a whole new Southern life style, in addition to a completely new way of speaking.

    Very enjoyable show!

FUNNY!!!! I had no idea what to expect. Was very pleasantly surprised. Kurt’s take on things - and his asides are hilarious. Laughed ’till my sides hurt.

Kurt - Saw your 8:30 show on March 5th. Very funny. You have a real talent for finding humor in small, everyday occurrences. You reminded me of Spalding Gray. I hope to see you again next year.

For me, this show started funny and went downhill. A lot of what he says to the crowd clearly comes from Kurt writing the stuff on paper and thinking it was funny, and his far-reaching references, similes and metaphors are also best suited to the written page.

I would have liked to hear more about the actuality of the difficult speech therapy training, without the constant strained attempts at finding humor in every moment. I also would have liked more visual effort put into the show, whether through more props, more technical preparation, whatever. It became visually boring to just watch Kurt speak for an entire hour with very little kinetic movement other than gesticulating and gesturing in an unnatural manner.

It’s a fascinating topic, and I love these confessional shows that come through the Rogue, and Kurt is genuinely a really great person and nice guy, but the persona on-stage didn’t feel quite ‘real’ to me. I hope Kurt watches other fringe one-person shows and steals their ideas as he continues to develop this show. The subject has merit, and who better to speak on this topic than Kurt - an actual success story? But it pales in comparison to Ryan Paulson, Barry Smith, or the Man - 1, Bank - 0 guy.

It might have worked better as a shorter cafe show, not so heavily over-written. I do wish Kurt the very best, and I hope he doesn’t give up on this topic or this show, and with his style (the Spalding Gray reference isn’t all bad) he should definitely write a book on his life experiences.

A learning experience as well as an entertaining show. I appreciated K-K-K-Kurt’s willingness to share his difficulties with speaking and his progress in speech therapy. He made us think about how it feels to be unable to get certain sounds out, and how hurtfully some people respond to a stutterer. He’s charming and fun, and definitely worth seeing/hearing.

I enjoyed this show very much. Kurt has a very likeable persona and for me it was like listening to an old friend recount his story. Well done, I say.

You’ve found a lot of humor in what at times must have been a painful experience. It must have been quite exasperating dealing with others perceptions of your speech difficulties. Thanks for giving us an entertaining and enlightening look at your success!
