Good set. Enjoyed his music and his easy way of checking in with his audience.

I got to see the Friday “Free Show” and really enjoyed the evening. A friend of mine had stopped in to see the previous show, and we stayed to see this.

Kien Lim is a fantastic songwriter. I guess a good way to describe his sound is folk rock. Whatever it is, it’s good. The time went by so fast, I couldn’t believe when the set was over.

Especially fun was the onstage “reunion” of three friends who had not all been together for 35 years.

Back in Malaysia, as teens, they had a rock band. In that way that a lot of teens have a “rock band”. So we were treated to some great guitar duets, and then… an original composition by all three called “Close the Door”.

And a snippet of a song that would get them in deep trouble back home, which happens to have the same tune as the Malay national anthem. But just a snippet. You know, for contrast.

You can see why these guys are still friends, and so easy in company, even after all these years.

Go figure, birds of a feather and all that. Kien Lim is an amazing talent. Of course his old buddies are equally as sharp and gifted.
