This year’s Brad Hufft show features soprano Hanna Nielsen with an ensemble that includes tenor voice, flute, steel drums, and two guitars. Four of the works; Invocation and Fanfare, Interlude, Three Prayers, and Benediction, will be world premieres. We will also perform Three Miniatures, a work from 1989. I’m especially excited about Three Prayers. It was written for Ms. Nielsen with text written by my daughter, Ellen. We seek in this work to look at the world from the perspective of the peoples of the First Nations of the Americas, with references to the creation stories of the Plains Indians.

Wonderful poetry set to powerful music. Worth hearing more than once.

EITHER

A) People really don’t know what “Hufft Stuff” means (ie, Brad doesn’t know as many people as he thinks)

B) The Rogue really isn’t the place for highbrow music

Either way, the crowd last night was SPARSE (while a few blocks away, an add-on Suicide Lounge show was packed…and that’s LOWbrow stuff, to be sure).

But the crowd last night was quite enthusiastic, and how could they not be? This is a fusion of chamber music, Hanna Nielson’s operatic wonderments, and the intricate blend of string music with steel drums, flute and poetry.

It really was wonderful, and I’m sorry more folks didn’t get to hear it. While Suicide Lounge can be a very fun show, hearing Brad Hufft and his Stuff is a mesmerizing experience.

Thanks for the kind words. I’d like to think “Excuse B” is the one to go with, although I will admit that since I stopped working in the Tower I don’t have as much contact with people. I;m glad you enjoyed the show.
