I am involved with the film for the rogue “Fresno, a culture of Excellence” at Java Wava. The length of the film is 25 minutes not 65 as shown on the web site.

Oh boy! Plane ticket bought, show rehearsed (and still changing), stage manager lined up (woo-hoo Andrew: thanks DJ Prof!), and bag is outta the attic and I’ve begun to pack. Lookin’ forward to a jammin’ time at Rogue! Left Coast, here I come!

I’m looking for a schedule of the shows similar to what is normally found in the Rogue Map–like a grid format. Is there one on this site? Maybe I’m just not looking hard enough.

Please don’t post schedule info *only* in PDF.

I don’t understand why there is not already just a LIST — with a paragraph on each performance: the show’s name, artists, description, and location — all available with one click.

This site seems so chaotic. Yes, there’s a list of links to each performer — but that does no good for the majority of us who want an overview, and have no reason to click on anyone link out of the dozens there.
And there’s a another set of links by venue… Why? Again, most would-be attendees will choose shows by there type or description — not where they are held.

Sorry to go on at such length, but I’ve had the same problems with this site for many years now — and I’m just flabbergasted there is not a simple page with a simple list of shows.

Ditto re: #39. You can sense the excitement in the air. On Olive Ave tonight, total strangers are stopping one another asking where the master grid schedule can be found, myself included. I’m guessing we don’t see it yet because Marcel and Gang are probably working 24/7 coordinating info that changes every 5 minutes (and we all know how difficult it is dealing with hundreds of Artiiists, right?) Marcel, let me know if I can help you pull that together (I’m good at organizing detailed info). Live out of town, but can do lots on this laptop. Thanks to all Rogueites for making this happen 7 years in a row! Rogue needs volunteers.

Has it hit the site yet?? I keep hitting ‘grid’ and I just get the list. Myself and many many other customers want to know!

just checked out “it could be worse,” and yeah, it could have been worse. but it could have been better. the acting was great. three dynamic women putting a lot of life into the roles. and the writing was pretty good. you really did feel like you were reading someone’s blog, which was the premise for the play.

but there were some serious race issues in the play. and in case anyone might say i’m being sensitive let me start by pointing out that the play was performed by 3 white women to a predominately older, white audience. so if i am being sensitive i kinda think thats a good thing. anyway, here is the problem my friends and i saw. a couple scenes in this play consisted of the characters complaining about various aspects of particular latino subcultures. mocking latino men, “tito” and his fellow bike riding, pants sagging friends were portrayed as taco bell lovin, turf war fighting, chest pounding apes. this is the aspect of latino life in the central valley the writer chose to write about. according to her play gang bangin is the only thing she sees latinos do in the cv.

if the writer doesn’t understand a particular subculture, one racially different from her own, there are better ways to put it out there. and of all the topics she could have chosen to write about regarding the diversity of the cv, monosyllabic gang bangin apes was what resonated with her.

like i said, she is a good writer. other than the race issue the play was funny. but folks putting their work out their ought to be thinking about the connatations of the issues and concepts they choose to present, particularly when mocking other groups.

of all the rogue performances we coulda put our money to we chose hers. a satire on life in the cv, what could be better? but no, we were pretty disappointed. and pretty uncomfortable. not something i expected from the rogue.

We Attended the Rogue Performance Festival 2008 in Fresno Calif on Saturday March 8th, Ananka’s Bellydancers were fabulous, their costume’s were beautiful, music selection fit the theme, great price Enjoyed the show, will attend again next year. Anyone with negative feedback must have been at a different show!!!

I just wanted to comment on Ananka’s Dance Company which I had the pleasure of seeing on March 8th. I was totally wowed by their costumes, and thoroughly enjoyed the flow of the choreography for each of the dancers. This dance group certainly knows how to keep an audience entertained. Way to go!!

Looking forward to next year’s performance, AS ALWAYS…

Every year my family and I go see Anankas Dance Co. Every year this very talented group surprises me with their show. They show the audience that they can present belly dancing in many forms from traditional belly dancing to other themes and imagination. Not only are they talented dancers, the costumes they made were beautiful. We will look forward to next year performance.
