“In the 1930’s, if you had a lot of money you had “heavy sugar.” Well, if musical talent was currency, this band would be some off-the-hook-extremely-heavy-sugar. Five individually amazing musicians have joined together to perform some of the best music ever written, jazz of the 30’s and 40’s.
Karen Marguth’s pure, sensual, crisp vocals will be highlighted by the musicianship of none other than Armen Nalbandian on piano, Rich Severson on guitar, Kevin Hill on bass, and Gary Newmark on drums. Rarely does a combination like this come together, and you won’t want to miss it.

You couldn’t ask for a better line-up of jazz musicians! You’ll hear some fantastic improv during the instrumental solos, and Karen is wonderful, bright, and smooth. They played a great selection of songs, including an amazing “East of the Sun and West of the Moon.” One couple got up and danced during one of the songs! Anyone with an interest in jazz needs to see Karen and her remarkable ensemble!

Well I was amazed! After seeing this show I can say that, Karen Marguth is probably the best jazz singer in Fresno. I especially loved the duet with the guitar player (sorry, I forgot his name). Frankly its an all-star dream team of Fresno jazz stars. Kevin on bass is always great. I‘ve hear him play with his group, and Armen’s trio and he is destined to be a superstar of jazz. And the drummer Gary Newmark, made one drum sound like a million. I was surprised to see Armen Nalbandian playing with the group. I’ve become accustomed to seeing him at the Art Museum’s concerts, but I’ve never quite seen him playing music like this before. He was bearded, seemed very shy, and almost too subtle when playing but it was honor like usual to hear him play. Great job Karen!
