Language was created for communication, for survival – the side-effect for some can be a profound beauty that can genuinely affect one’s heart.

That is Liesl Garner’s gift. It is the greater purpose of language.

Her poetry’s ravishing beauty is often blatant in its effortless but magnificent simplicity. Its naked silhouette revealed and then adorned vibrantly and dynamically, sent on a path of twists and turns of pure honesty that surprise with great satisfaction, and arrive buried deep in your heart, like a memory – comforting or shocking, but always unambiguous and candid.

I’m not usually a poetry fan, but I am now…

One of the best poetry readings I have ever attended.
Liesel’s poetry show pieces of her return journey to life and light after a time of personal darkness. Her earlier 'darker' poetry has not yet been disclosed but perhaps later she will be able to share that with an audience.

true writing and real poetry causes a person to fall in love and care for, often, completely fictitious characters.

Liesl, just by being herself, and writing about her life and experiences not only causes the reader/listener to fall in love with her and her life, -but all who she's interracted with as well.

It's instant family, (but not in the 'instant pudding,') it's instant in that you think you're alone in a room and it's dark, then this smiling brave and honest girl stands (eye to eye, she's a tall one,) and speaks the characters out of hiding, and turns the lights on for you.

When she's done, you are more aware of the world, how it feels to be her, and who others really are (because of them trusting her with honesty, whether she wanted that or not,) and she trusting you with the truth.
-and somehow when she talks about it, it's beautiful and seen through the eyes of grace.

I'm so happy that I was able to hear Liesl Garner's poetry, and even more fortunate to hear her read it herself (she's a joy to watch and listen to).

Her poetry is breathtakingly beautiful in its simplicity, clarity, humanity, honesty, and depth. Each poem went directly to the heart of the emotion, and every single poem - whether it described a situation or event that I had experienced myself or not or never will - resonated so profoundly with me, that I was stunned. And still am. She is a poet who loves life with a ferocity, and with such generosity of spirit that, through her poetry, you see her, how she sees the world, her life, and herself, but you also see yourself.

Absolutely magnificent.
