The Rogue:

Sparking Inspiration & Igniting Creativity!

"Think about it as this swirling circus of originality and creativity that magically appears once a year to tickle, inspire and fire the imagination ... unabashedly celebrating and stretching the wonders of the possible."

The Rogue celebrates the independent performer and artist by providing the opportunity to showcase works in a friendly, affordable, and creative setting. The Rogue Performance Festival is modeled after the fringe festivals which have become popular worldwide. More on the Rogue can be found on our FAQ page.

Preparations are already underway for the Rogue Performance Festival 2007!  Applications will be posted here from July 23. There will be links on the "Applications" page to the various components for those of you who are interested in performing or showing at the 2007 Rogue.

The Rogue Performance Festival: A Short History

2002

The first Rogue Performance Festival was powered by Theatre J'Nerique at the Sanctuary Stage Theater in March 2002 in downtown Fresno, California. This location offered two separate venues in the same building. The venues were called the Rogue Mainstage and the Rogue Cafe respectively. The first year attracted 16 performing companies and brought in an audience of about 1200 over a 6 day period.

2003

The 2003 Rogue was moved to the historical and cultural Tower District of Fresno, CA. The Rogue Mainstage was housed at the Starline performance venue. The Rogue Cafe was hosted under a tent on the back patio of the Veni Vidi Vici bistro.

That year the Rogue doubled the attendance from the previous year. 25 performing groups were featured and attracted performers from San Francisco and South Dakota.

2004

For 2004 we added another Mainstage venue at Club Fred. We also introduced the Rogue Gallery component featuring the visual arts and also introduced the Rogue BYOV (Bring Your Own Venue) component to further expand the growing inclusive nature of the festival.

The 2004 Rogue broke all previous records with an attendance of close to 4000 and showcasing 40 performance groups and featured the work of 10 visual artists. Performers came as far as San Diego, Sacramento, and London, England.

2005

The 2005 Rogue added Rogue Film as  a full component. The festival attracted over 60 performance groups and visual artists. Participants came from as far as Los Angeles, London, San Francisco and Vancouver, Canada for a 9 day event.

Including the BYO component, the 2005 festival offered 12 separate venues bringing in close to 5500 audience members and was even featured in the New York Times as a travel destination.

2006

2006 was yet another banner year for the Rogue. Over 70 performing acts and visual artists were showcased. Participants represented cities such as Minneapolis, Toronto, Los Angeles and Healdsburg.

The festival offered over 13 venues and expanded it's reach to the downtown area. Over 7000 audience members attended and the Rogue was also a featured destination with the triple A magazine.

Watch Out for the 2007 festival!

The Rogue is fast growing into a Festival that will encompass every aspect of the arts. Become a part of it!
